The Black Hole Skimmer is a surface water skimmer that helps maintain a clear and healthy tank. It accomplishes this by positioning its self-adjusting funnel just beneath the water's surface to remove debris and oils, creating an upward flow that delivers suspended debris and contaminants to the skimmer. The skimmer is versatile and suitable for almost any size aquarium, filtering oil, scum, uneaten food, small leaves, and other surface debris.

The filtered water is deposited deep into the tank, causing water below the surface to move up and replace the filtered surface water, bringing suspended debris, nitrates, and ammonia to the skimmer. The filter chamber accommodates various types of filter media to target different aquarium contaminates. The skimmer can be detached from its pump for easy removal, allowing for convenient targeting of different issues in the tank.

The BHS-160 powerhead, which is quiet and dependable with a 2-meter cord and output diffuser sponge, is included with the skimmer. The Black Hole Skimmer optimally removes surface oils and debris, working well with tanks from 20 to 225 gallons and water flows from 160 to 900 gallons per hour.
